Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Recycling cans, bottles, cardboard, and glass is probably something you do now that you don’t necessarily know the benefits of. For starters, it reduces the amount of waste sent to incinerators and landfills. It also prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect raw materials. Most importantly, it saves you energy and money in the long run. Another way you can recycle is by composting. Composting is easier than you may think! It creates soil to use for planting in a garden or just reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. Here are some simple steps for you to set up your own compost area at home:

  1. Select a dry, shady spot near a water source for your compost pile or bin.
  2. Add brown and green materials as they are collected, making sure larger pieces are chopped or shredded.
  3. Moisten dry materials as they are added.
  4. Once your compost pile is established, mix grass clippings and green waste into the pile and bury fruit and vegetable waste under 10 inches of compost materials.
